Diploma in Thermal Power Plant Engineering
the lines of PGDC, sensing the need for trained manpower
in the supervisory cadre a Post Diploma Course in Thermal
Power Plant Engineering of one year duration was launched
by NPTI in the year 2000 and six batches have already turned
out of this Institute. Like PGDC candidates there is a good
reception for PDC holders also in the Power Industry and
they are well placed. The demand for these candidates is
increasing every year.
This course is meant for Diploma holders in Mechanical, Electrical & Electronics
or Instrumentation & Control Disciplines.
This one-year course is conducted in two semesters. The semester
wise topics are
i) Basic Concepts and Off Site Facilities
ii) Steam Generators
iii) Turbines and Ancillaries
iv) Electrical Machines and Systems
i) Erection and Commissioning
ii)Control, Instrumentation and Information Technology
iii) Operation & Performance Monitoring
iv) Power Plant Maintenance
As this course is meant for both Electrical and Mechanical Diploma
holders, a Bridge course of 2 weeks duration is conducted for
all the students in the beginning .The students from mechanical
stream is given exposure on Electrical Engineering and that of
Electrical stream on Mechanical Engineering.
ONJOB AND SIMULATOR TRAINING
The salient feature of this Programme is apart from class room
lectures and practical in the Institute, the course includes
guided on job training on operation and maintenance practices
in a large Thermal Power Station and 2 weeks hands on Training
in a full scope Thermal Power Station Simulator. This makes the
candidates to handle O&M field works independently on completion
of the course.
O&M COMPETENCY CERTIFICATE
This course meets the mandatory requirements under Rule 3(2-A)
of Indian Electricity Rules for O&M Engineers of large Thermal
Power Stations. The holders of this Post Diploma are entitled
to obtain the Power Generating Station O&M Competency Certificate
from State Electrical Licensing Boards.
The course normally commences in NPTI (SR) Neyveli in the middle
of October every year. Notification on this will be issued in
Employment News and leading newspapers in August/September. Admission
will be done by NPTI (SR).
